Learn what you can do to maintain the condition of your diving equipment. Simple repairs and fault diagnosis can prolong the life of your diving equipment.
Dive Planning and Marshalling
An opportunity to understand the responsibilities of planning and organising a dive. The course covers how to record dive information and planning for diving emergencies.
Search and Recovery Techniques
Learn how to locate and record an underwater feature or wreck. The course also gives practical experience of underwater lifting techniques and the use of buoyancy.
Diving Operations Specialist
Not a course, but a qualification awarded to holders of the BSAC suite of Technical awards.
Full Face Mask
Covers the construction and use of a range of full face masks for recreational and technical diving.
Life Saver Award
The primary aim is to examine, under pool or sheltered water conditions, lifesaving proficiency specifically applicable to divers. A secondary aim is to examine the ability of divers to make use of their rescue skills in more general non-diving situations. The examination covers rescue methods suitable for use from shore or boat, by rescuers as they are likely to be dressed at the time, using aids that may reasonably be expected to be available.
Advanced Life Saver Award
To examine lifesaving proficiency specifically applicable to divers in realistic open water conditions. The examination also covers First Aid for injuries likely to be encountered in diving and diving related activities.
To teach the basics of First Aid likely to be needed in the sports diving environment making use of the resources likely to be available at the time. This will include the improvisation of dressings, splints, etc., using materials and equipment commonly available on site or in the boat.
To teach the administration of oxygen as a means of increasing the effectiveness of First Aid treatment of diving accidents.
It is implicit in this definition that the treatment takes place on the surface, either in a boat or on dry land. There is no question of administering oxygen to a submerged diver.
Rescue First Aid Award
To introduce more advanced first aid skills such as the use of resuscitators, airways and neck stabilisation. The course also builds on oxygen administration procedures and includes refresher training in general first aid techniques.
To instruct members in the safe and correct procedures for operating a high pressure air compressor; for filling cylinders from a compressor and from an air storage bank; and for good compressor management.
Boat Handling Course
The course is designed to give students, with little or no boat handling knowledge or experience, instruction in small boat handling, including techniques relevant to diving, and related safety knowledge.
Chartwork and Position Fixing
To instruct members in the basic techniques of marine navigation to a level which will help them as active divers in planning and managing dives undertaken by a typical BSAC Branch.
(The course comprehensively covers the requirements of Dive Leader lesson LT7 and is a training option for BSAC Advanced Diver).
Nitrox Diver Course
Advanced Diver Course
Extended Range Diver
To promote more efficient, successful and safe deep diving techniques.
To encourage a responsible and flexible approach to extended range diving.
To identify the areas of potential problem, discuss the possibilities of management and resolution in practice. To provide a pool of information from which may be selected whatever is achievable and relevant to any specific extended range dive being considered.
